The Elias & Hanna Regensburger Foundation has awarded a $15,000 grant to Meals on Wheels of Texoma to be used to provide meals to seniors and disabled persons in Denison, TX. The Regensburger Foundation has long been a supporter of charitable organizations throughout Grayson County and across the nation, according to their GuideStar profile. The specific grant awarded is intended to support Meals on Wheel's mission to eradicate senior hunger by the year 2020, an aggressive goal by any standard and one whose success is dependant on community support.
The purpose of this grant is to enable Meals on Wheels of Texoma (MOWOT) continue to initiate service to newly referred clients immediately, rather than waiting for traditional funding to become available. Greg Pittman, MOWOT's Executive Director for 2012, says that for the clients served by the program, the option to wait for funding just isn't an option at all. "The majority of clients clients referred to us are already facing a dire or emergency situation. These are people who are not able to prepare a meal for themself. These are people who might not eat without someone to help them. Someone - a caseworker, a neighbor, or family member - has asked us to help them, and that is what we are going to do. We have faith in the community we serve and the community has faith in us. We depend on the community every step of the way, from providing funding to purchase the food we use to prepare the meals to providing volunteers to deliver the meals we cook. We are a community-centric organization with a life cycle that begins and ends in the community."
Meals on Wheels of Texoma wants to thank the Elias and Hanna Regensburger Foundation and its trustees for their faith in and support of our program.
